The astrological predictive technique known as “transits” is arguably the most basic and also the most useful of astrology’s many timing methodologies. The premise is quite simple and straight forward: by superimposing the current cosmic pattern onto the planetary positions at birth, you can gain insights into how a given moment or period of time will be experienced by the native.
In particular, great emphasis is placed on the aspects or geometric angles formed between the placements in the birth chart and the planetary positions at any given time. The passage of transiting planets through the houses of the natal chart are also routinely considered, but this latter approach is fraught with some uncertainty, since the choice of house system can dramatically alter outcomes.
While there is greater clarity and certainty regarding timing of events with aspects, and although there is very wide consensus regarding the significance and likely outcomes of specific transiting aspects, we believe there is much that remains to be learned and discovered through coordinated and collaborative research. This is also an area in which we may be able to establish some sort of empirically demonstrable astrological effect through systematic data collection, data analysis and through the design of tests and experiments.
We are preparing suitable tools and systems to facilitate collaborative participation among astrologers with the necessary expertise.
